New Guidance on Semen Import Certification

On the back of some robust lobbying, Defra and the APHA have today agreed that they are now willing to accept electronic copies of the Intra Trade Health Certificate accompanying fresh semen imported from the EU to its destination (the original Health Certificate should be sent afterwards).  This will be welcome news for all those using imported semen.

As part of its ongoing communication around the new equine influenza protocols which came in place from 1 May 2019, the BHA has today clarified the requirements for runners from non-licensed yards in Britain.

BEVA Trust volunteers Rhiannon Morgan and Alison Fairburn share expertise with vets and students in Estonia

The most recent BEVA Trust project took place at The Institute of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, in Tartu. Estonian equine vets and veterinary students joined together for a weekend of imaging seminars and practical sessions. The seminars covered a range of topics, including the fetlock, tarsus, stifle, neck and back, head, thorax and eye. Radiography and ultrasonography techniques were discussed, along with common pathologies and some anatomy.

The RCVS celebrates 175 years

Throughout 2019, the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) will be celebrating its 175th Anniversary with a number of initiatives that both reflect on its rich history and look forward to the future of the veterinary profession.

Advice following EVA Outbreak

Following last week’s notification that stallions on a premises in the UK had tested positive for Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA), BEVA and the Animal Health Trust (AHT) are advising vigilance and encouraging people to re-familiarise themselves, where necessary, with the possible presentations of the disease and routes of transmission.
