Sustainability

We all know that our planet is facing catastrophic environmental threats, including global warming, pollution, and deforestation, and there is an increasing spotlight on the ‘exhibition’ and ‘veterinary’ sectors to reduce their impact. At BEVA HQ we are taking steps to make the organisation, and the events we run, more sustainable and we have silver accreditation from Investors in the Environment

For those of you not already doing so, we encourage you to consider how you can reduce the environmental impact of your stand build/design. Below are a few simple ways to get you started.

  • Reduce/Reuse: consider using a display that can be reused or components that can be reconfigured/repurposed for other events.
  • Recycle: Build your stand from recyclable material – there are lots of products on the market such as eco-friendly printing processes (that eliminate solvents or use waterless ink), recyclable graphic substrates (honeycomb board, recycled cardboards and sustainably-sourced wood), and recyclable flooring.
  • Energy Efficient: There is a host of energy-efficient technology that is kinder to the environment – lighting (such as LEDs, Eco Halogens and CFLs light bulbs), presentations, showreels and interactive experiences. Look out for the colour-coded energy efficiency guide at the back of electrical equipment and opt for models with an A++ or A+++ efficiency rating.
  • Reduce Waste: Paperless stands are becoming more common with digital options such as tablets, dynamic displays, screens and even virtual reality all great options. It is easier than ever to collect contact information so you can follow up with digital marketing collateral. Cut out the paper and you cut out the environmental cost of production, transport and waste. If it isn’t possible to go paperless, try to use sustainably sourced paper.
  • Consider Transport Mode: Reducing your CO2 emissions by choosing a display with a smaller volumetric capacity (semi-rigid materials, rollable or tension-fabric graphics that can be stored inside space-saving carry bags and graphics drums) will allow you to fit into a smaller vehicle. Also, consider how stand personnel travel to and from the venue, can they car share or use public transport?
  • Rethink Giveaways if you are planning on giving away freebies, there are plenty of alternatives to plastic giveaways made from recycled materials, hemp, bamboo, and wood alternatives.
  • Spread the word: don’t forget to tell people what you are doing to encourage sustainability – it is a key selling point.
