BEVA members invited to participate in Tim Hirst LW Sportive

We're supporting the Tim Hirst LW Sportive bike ride on Saturday 13 July 2024 in the Cotswolds, and we would encourage all cycling enthusiasts to sign up to support this fundraiser.

The Sportive is being held in honour of the late Tim Hirst, a large animal vet from the George Veterinary Group, who sadly passed away in July 2019. Tim is remembered as a hugely dedicated, fun and caring individual who was “physically incapable of doing nothing”. After entering a team chase as a very inexperienced rider, his passion for horses grew and he went on to ride with the Berkeley Hunt for many years. Tim tragically lost his life to pulmonary fibrosis and since then his friends and colleagues have worked to raise awareness of the condition and fundraise for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis.

The Sportive comes five years after Tim’s death and is hoped to raise further donations for Action for Pulmonary Fibrosis. The ride offers two routes starting and finishing at Upper Seagry Farm near Chippenham: a beautiful 100km ride with three fully stocked feed stations, or a more sedate 35km ride with one feed station. Riders can make the most of the reduced price bike checks and servicing, and will have access to mechanical assistance on the day. The finish line will host a hog roast, ice cream, fully stocked bar and bouncy castle. All are welcome to take part in the ride, or even just come along to show support. The team are also asking for volunteers to help run the day.
