BEVA member Emily Floyd to take part in history-making equestrian expedition

BEVA member Emily Floyd will support Steph Quintrell in her bid to become the first para-equestrian to cross the Andes on horseback in February.

Clinical director at Rossdales Veterinary Hospital, Emily will participate in the "Ride to Independence" expedition in February as support for Steph, along with four other women. Steph lost her mobility back in 2019 due to a neurological condition and has since founded Equine Para-Adventures (EPA), which aims to provide opportunities for disabled adults to get involved in equine activities outside the usual equestrian centre set ups. Steph provides presentations and motivational speeches to communities about the possibilities available to the disabled within the equestrian world, with a big focus on overseas expeditions and activities.

This expedition will be her biggest yet and Emily will be there to support her every step of the way. Starting in Argentina, the team will travel 143 kilometres in seven days reaching heights of up to 4400m across the world's longest mountain range, before finishing in Chile.

"Steph is an incredible person, it's an honour to be part of her team" said Emily. "We're off five weeks today and I cannot wait to take on this incredible opportunity with a team of such amazing women."

We're so proud of Emily, Steph and the whole team taking on this huge challenge and wish them all the very best of luck. If you'd like to donate towards the trip, you can do so via their GoFundMe page - any surplus funding will be donated to the EPA.
