Equine vet vacancy

As a growing practice we are expanding and need an additional full-time equine vet to join us in our non-corporate, independent practice. Our high standards of care were recognised in 2022 when we were voted “Veterinary Practice of the Year” (Equestrian Business Awards) and actively built on this to improve both our client experience and our vet well-being. A recent introduction has been the 4 day week (8.30am - 5.30pm) which offers an excellent work/life balance with regular four day weekends following a duty weekend.

With an excellent supportive environment we provide outstanding support for new or recent graduates including an initial “buddy” system with one of the more senior vets combined with a thorough induction process. We have a VetGDP Adviser for new graduates as well as an extensive support network from senior vets with dual CertAVP in orthopaedics and soft tissue surgery. There is additional backup from senior vets studying for or having achieved Advanced Practitioner Status. We have an excellent team with sympathetic staff contributing to the friendly atmosphere including a trained counsellor if needed. Weekly M & M meetings to help everyone keep up-to-speed along with regular Journal Clubs.

The role is mainly ambulatory but with opportunity to spend time within the practice assisting with gastroscopy, imaging, laser surgery as well as lameness investigations, anaesthesia/surgery including arthroscopy. Surgical facilities including areas for standing surgery, padded knock-down box and large GA operating theatre as well as trot-up, 60 x 25m outdoor and 40 x 20m indoor as well as gallop track for lameness and poor performance investigation.

Situated in the Greater Manchester area fantastic nightlife in Manchester city (bars, theatre, sport etc) are close by as is Manchester Airport as well as the beautiful countryside of Saddleworth and Pennines. Also within striking distance is the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales, North Wales and Peak District as well West Lancashire coast.

Rota is 1 in 7 weekdays and 1 in 6 weekends with an office day following a night on duty. Further training for CPD/Certificate encouraged. Salary according to experience plus car plus private medical insurance.
