Would you consider hosting Ukrainian refugees?
An organisation called Love Bristol are running the UK desk at the largest refugee camp in Przemysl. From this desk they work to match people in the UK with refugees desperate for a safe home. BEVA President Elect David Rendle met volunteers from the organisation and spoke to them about the process for UK residents willing to help. If you are interested in registering, you can do via the government website where you will be asked to complete an online form. Love Bristol will work to arrange a mange and then facilitate getting refugees across Europe and into the UK where you as the host would meet them. Love Bristol were keen to share the following important points regarding the process:
• Don’t be put off by the request for passport details etc, they are a registered charity and are GDPR compliant. They need this information to do the visa paperwork.
• Rural properties are less favoured because refugees want to be able to work and want to be able to move around without being dependent on their hosts. Where you can please explain how you can mitigate this.
• There is an excess of offers of people with single rooms, what is most needed is hosts with multiple rooms that can take family units.
If you feel you could host Ukrainian refugees and would be interested in registering you can do so here.
