The Horse Trust opens its doors on 20 May 2026 for a Body Condition Scoring (BCS) Awareness Day, giving equine professionals a unique opportunity to enhance their understanding of this important topic.
This engaging and interactive event will bring together veterinary professionals, show judges, and other equestrian specialists to participate in practical BCS sessions with real horses in The Horse Trust’s excellent facilities. The presentation also covers how to discuss equine body condition clearly and positively, fostering shared understanding among professionals.
Participants will have the chance to take part in hands-on sessions, using tools such as weigh tapes and weighbridges to see how a horse’s appearance compares to its actual weight. Demonstrations, including ultrasound, provide further insight into fat coverage, offering a perspective rarely accessible in everyday practice.
The day is ideally suited to judges, stewards, and anyone interested in becoming a body condition scorer, as well as those looking to strengthen their existing knowledge and confidence in this important area. The aim is to encourage a clear, consistent and mutually understood approach to BCS within the showing community.
Places are limited, so early registration is encouraged. To register your interest, please email vicky@holdsworthpr.co.uk.
