Who is the course for?
Part of our Fundamentals programme this course is for recent graduates and rusty returners and anyone wanting a recap of the basics
About the Course
A day discussing the radiography and ultrasound skills deemed essential for any vet seeing horses in general practice. Pre-course online learning will allow for emphasis on the day to be placed on the practical skills. Practical teaching will cover the basics of first opinion orthopaedic radiography, how to take good radiographs and how to interpret them. The same format will be provided for ultrasound of the distal limb in the field. There will also be theory and discussion on when advanced imaging is indicated, which should give practitioners the confidence to refer appropriately for modalities such as MRI and CT.
Please note that due to COVID regulations and logistics lunch is likely to be a packed lunch and you may be required to bring your own thermos or other mug.
Key Learning Objectives
- How to get the most out of your equipment, avoid common mistakes and trouble-shoot in the field.
- Acquisition of routine radiographs of the distal limbs, knees, hocks and stifles.
- Acquisition of standard diagnostic ultrasound images of the DDFT, SDFT, ALDDFT, and SL.
- Interpretation of normal and abnormal findings on radiographs and ultrasound of the above areas, including identification of artefacts.
- Confidently recognise when advanced diagnostic imaging modalities are indicated and when to refer.
