Nerve blocks are an essential part of equine clinical work, whether it's for lameness investigation or in wound/pain management. Unsurprisingly though, repeatedly sticking needs into horses often results in wariness of the blocking process which can lead to increased injury risk to you as the vet, the horse or the handler.
For this Clinical Catch-Up we're joined by equine behaviourist Gemma Pearson to see how we can make nerve blocking a more positive experience for the horse, thus reducing their fight or flight response when they see a vet or nurse coming!
This session will help you perform more efficient blocks to improve your lameness locator skills and reduce needle-shyness, ultimately saving the owner time and money and reducing the risk to you!
