This highly practical course equips you with the essential skills to assess and manage acute traumatic injuries in horses. Through a mix of online pre-learning, live-horse practicals and cadaver demonstrations, you’ll develop confidence in wound management, suturing, synoviocentesis, and emergency stabilisation techniques.
You’ll learn how to decide when a wound should be closed, the most appropriate closure techniques, and how to perform tension-relieving suture patterns. The course also covers effective bandaging, when to apply casts or bandage casts, and how to select suitable dressings for field conditions. Synoviocentesis approaches for major joints and tendon sheaths will be demonstrated and practised.
Realistic case scenarios including eyelid, nasal, muzzle, heel bulb, high-motion joint wounds, tendon sheath involvement, and open splint bone injuries will provide opportunities to apply your skills.
