Warwick Racecourse, Hampton Street, , CV34 6HN
This new course run by the Veterinary Defence Society (VDS) in collaboration with BEVA will explore the tools and techniques you need to effectively deal with the more challenging conversations you may face as an equine vet. We will study the reasons behind common communication barriers and how to overcome these in order to enhance your interactions. We will also look at ways of managing yourself and others through situations where clients are distressed or exhibiting challenging behaviours, and help you develop techniques to communicate your boundaries whilst maintaining empathy. During this face-to-face workshop, we will use simulated client consultations using actors and role players. This will give you the opportunity to practice the skills and tools you will have learned throughout the day to help you develop and practice new approaches in a non-judgmental and supportive space.
By the end of the course you will... 1. Have strengthened your communication skills and confidence in building trust and partnership with clients and colleagues 2. Have created a personal strategy to manage yourself and others when dealing with distressed or angry clients 3. Be able to create and communicate your boundaries when managing clients and colleagues, aiding you in de-escalating emotion
