Theatre Nursing – The Key to Reducing Antimicrobial Use in Surgery

Online Course,
Ely,

book iconAbout the Course

With the rising risks of antibiotic resistance and surgical site infections (SSIs), what can we do to minimise and, in some cases, prevent these from happening in our patients? As a nurse you play a key part in the surgical preparation of the theatre and the patient. Research has shown that where the surroundings, scrub and sterility are optimum, antibiosis is no longer required in clean procedures. Join us to find out how you can achieve this goal.

Our online lecture will provide discussion and top tip-sharing time. We will consolidate the role of the theatre nurse and provide updates on biosecurity, instrument care and how to run a theatre. With a focus on surgical site infections we will be looking at how we can reduce these by aiming for perfect preparation and performance and reduce reliance on antimicrobials.

We will be taking it back to basics and looking at where improvements can be made, often in areas that are so routine that we forget about their importance.
