Seasonal Ambulatory Equine Vet - Emerson & Watson Equine Veterinary Surgeons - Berkshire

Vet Ambulatory
11 Feb 2026 BEVA

SEASONAL AMBULATORY EQUINE VET

Berkshire and Surrounding Counties (1 April – 30 September 2026)

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced equine veterinary surgeon to join our friendly, supportive, and progressive independent ambulatory practice on a seasonal basis for the 2026 summer season.

The position is available for the full period 1 April to 30 September 2026 (six months).

Applicants must be available to start no later than 15 April 2026 and must be able to commit to working until at least 31 July 2026.

Based between Ascot and Henley-on-Thames, and within easy reach of London and major airports, the practice serves a diverse and distinguished client base, including high-goal polo teams, professional showjumpers, dressage riders, and leisure clients. Applicants must have a minimum of two years’ ambulatory equine veterinary experience. The role is well suited to overseas vets or those returning to work in the UK for a defined period; applicants must be MRCVS.

While the successful applicant will be expected to work independently, they will be very well supported by the practice’s experienced veterinary team and dedicated, knowledgeable office staff. We foster a collaborative working environment, with in-depth weekly clinical meetings to discuss ongoing cases and share knowledge and insights. As proud members of XLVets, we also benefit from access to a wider professional network of independently owned practices.

The practice is exceptionally well equipped with a substantial pool of portable diagnostic and therapeutic equipment, including four wireless DR systems, six ultrasound scanners, video gastroscope, video endoscope, focal shockwave, therapeutic laser, four motorised dental kits, and in-house blood machines. We aim to carry out comprehensive case work-ups on yards, with referrals made when appropriate to trusted referral hospitals in the Southeast, with whom we have strong working relationships.

The role follows the practice’s established working patterns, with out-of-hours cover shared between the veterinary team and an external out-of-hours provider. Time off in lieu is provided for weekends on call, and rota commitments are structured to be fair and supportive during the busy summer period.

A competitive seasonal salary is offered, alongside an attractive benefits package which includes accommodation (if required), private medical insurance, workplace pension scheme, use of a well-equipped work vehicle, iPhone and iPad, and VDS cover.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a professional and supportive team for a defined period, working with a varied and rewarding performance-horse caseload in a highly regarded ambulatory practice.
