Hird & Partners Sheffield Equine Clinic is an independently owned equine practice with a big heart, a supportive team, and an exciting future — and we are looking for two enthusiastic equine vets to join us as we expand.
With our brand-new purpose-built premises nearing completion in Balborough, just off Junction 30 of the M1, this is a fantastic time to join a developing practice and help shape the next stage of our growth.
We are recruiting for:
• An experienced equine vet (experience preferred)
• A new graduate looking to start their equine career in a supportive environment
Both roles are predominantly ambulatory with one clinic day per week working alongside our experienced senior vets. Our caseload is varied and rewarding, ranging from much-loved leisure horses through to high-level competition and performance horses.
The Role
The rota is 4.5 days per week with on-call shared equally between the veterinary team for weeknights and weekends. After a weekend on-call you will enjoy a long weekend off, alongside a fixed half-day off each week.
Experienced Vet Role
We are looking for a confident and motivated equine vet who enjoys building client relationships and managing a varied ambulatory caseload. There will be opportunities to develop clinical interests and play a key role in the continued development of the practice as we move into our new facilities.
New Graduate Role
Our graduate position offers structured support, mentorship and the opportunity to develop your skills within a friendly and experienced team. You will work closely with senior vets on clinic days, benefit from regular case discussions, and be encouraged to build confidence in both ambulatory and clinic-based work.
The Practice
Our clinic is well equipped for lameness workups, reproductive work, and performance horse investigations, including:
• Digital radiography • Ultrasonography • Endoscopy and gastroscopy • In-house blood machines
We work closely with our referral centre at Shelf Equine Hospital for advanced diagnostics and procedures including surgery, MRI and CT. We also have a visiting equine dentist providing both routine and advanced dental work.
Our new premises will bring expanded facilities, additional working space, and exciting opportunities for further service development.
The Team
You will be joining a young, dynamic and supportive team ranging from new graduates to experienced partners, supported by fantastic nurses and administrative staff.
Each vet is paired with a dedicated member of our reception team to assist with diary management and administration, helping your working day run smoothly.
As an independent practice we value collaboration, open discussion and individual interests. We encourage professional development and regularly hold case discussions and vet meetings.

Balborough is ideally located for access to South and West Yorkshire, Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire, with the Peak District National Park just a short drive away. The surrounding area offers fantastic opportunities for outdoor activities alongside great transport links to cities including Sheffield, Leeds and Manchester.
