Exciting Equine Veterinary Opportunities in Auckland, New Zealand

Join a Leading Progressive Equine Practice

Veterinary Associates Equine is one of New Zealand’s leading equine general and referral practices, with a purpose-built hospital in Karaka and servicing the greater Auckland region. With a strong reputation across sport horse, racing, and pleasure horse sectors, we’re continuing to grow—and are looking for two exceptional veterinarians to join our team.

Whether you’re locally based or considering a move to New Zealand, this is a rare opportunity to work in a well-resourced, collaborative, and forward-thinking equine practice that is independently owned and operated.

1. Equine Ambulatory Veterinarian

Step into a well-supported ambulatory role with a diverse and rewarding caseload across the Auckland region. You’ll work with sport horses, racehorses, and pleasure horses, with the support of an experienced team, including two surgeons and an internist, and access to advanced diagnostics.

What you’ll have access to:

• Dynamic endoscopy

• Digital radiography & ultrasonography

• Advanced dentistry equipment

• AI gait analysis

• Regenerative therapies (IRAP, PRP, stem cell culture facility)

• In-house diagnostic laboratory

• Full-service hospital backup and specialist support

• This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, autonomy, and building strong client relationships. Experience in breeding, prepurchase exams, sports medicine, or dentistry is advantageous but not essential.

2. Advanced Medicine Clinician

Join us in a dynamic hybrid role that combines advanced internal medicine, critical care, and ambulatory work.

You’ll play a central role in:

• Managing complex medicine and critical care cases, including neonatal foals

• Contributing to hospital-based diagnostics and case management

• Supporting and collaborating with our busy ambulatory team

• Providing referral-level and first-opinion care in the field, maintaining variety and continuity of care

Mentoring and supporting our interns, helping guide case management, clinical decision-making, and professional development

This role is ideal for a clinician who:

• Enjoys the intellectual challenge of referral-level medicine, but

• Also values the variety, autonomy, and client connection of ambulatory work

• Has an interest in teaching and developing the next generation of equine veterinarians

You’ll work alongside experienced colleagues, including a board-certified internist, with shared after-hours responsibilities (currently one in three) and a strong team based approach to case care.

Whether you are:

• An ACVIM/ECEIM Diplomate seeking a balanced and fulfilling role

• An experienced hospital clinician

• Or a confident equine vet wanting to advance your medicine skills

—we can tailor this position to suit your strengths and career goals.

Looking for a new role and haven’t quite found a position that ticks all the boxes?
