Vet Associates is looking for an equine general practitioner to join our branch in Kumeu - just northwest of Auckland.
The details are pretty similar to other big practices - you have access to the usual toys, we include a ute (truck), cell phone and pay you on salary.
What sets us apart?
• We’re not a corporate practice.
• We are a little practice under the umbrella of a big practice. Kumeu is home to 3 (almost 4!) vets, and the wider group is around 20 vets. This includes 2 surgeons (!), an internist (!), 4 interns, and a bunch of generalists. You get all the coziness of a small practice, with all of the perks of a big one. No more practicing in a vacuum, you have a huge community here. Plus we have an amazing crew of nurses to help with the driving, patient restraint, and paperwork side of life.
• We like working together! No - seriously. We collaborate on cases, hold weekly journal rounds, monthly topic rounds, meet for coffee once a week, and really work hard to support each other. We encourage you to find your joy in your work and to chase it. CPD? Additional certificates? Let’s help you get there. Our goal is the best care and the best outcome for our patients.
• We have enormous case diversity. Not many infectious diseases, but we’ve got everything else. No two days will be the same.
• Maybe the biggest difference of all - we’re in New Zealand. That means a healthcare system, a retirement scheme, four weeks paid leave, public holidays. It also means beaches, wine (we brew beer too), and all the outdoor hobbies you can imagine. It does mean driving on the left and visas, but lots of us are immigrants, and we can absolutely help you navigate that process. We are near enough to the city center to enjoy a night out on the town, but far enough out to see the stars at night. The schools are great, and there are tons of options to pursue whatever variety of horse sport you enjoy.
What makes you the right fit?
• You’re a team player. Happy to help your colleague, and happy to share your talents and knowledge.
• You’ve got a great sense of humour, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.
• You’re passionate about horses and providing an exceptional standard of care.
• You enjoy a wide range of general practice (or you want to). This includes routine care, dentistry, lameness/poor performance, prepurchase exams, reproduction, medicine, wound care, client education, podiatry, geriatric care, etc etc etc. Bonus points for experience or an internship, but we’re open to all applicants. Kumeu is home to lots of pleasure horses and sport horses, fewer race horses. We have lots of novice horse owners, so a love of client education is really key.
