Hands-On and Practical with Older Horses

As the proportion of aged horses in the UK continues to grow, geriatric medicine is becoming an increasingly important part of equine veterinary practice. This two day practical and lecture based course focuses on the key areas that all veterinary surgeons encounter in the older horse population. Small group sessions using live and cadaver specimens allow delegates the opportunity to develop their practical skills and discuss their own cases. The course is suitable for all levels of experience.

Key Learning Objectives:
• Develop an understanding of the older horse in health and disease
• Refresh/update your knowledge of liver disease and PPID
• Confidently be able to identify dental and sinus disorders of the older horse
• Enhance/learn practical skills in abdominal ultrasound and specialist dental procedures
• Interpret radiographs to identify osteoarthritic changes and develop a management strategy

C-E.3 Equine general medicine, C-E.13 Equine dental care, diagnosis and treatment, C-E.1 Equine gastrointestinal disease and intensive care, C-E.2 Equine cardiovascular and respiratory disease

  • Cancellation more than 6 weeks prior to the start of the course: A refund will be made less a 10% administrative charge.
  • Cancellation less than 6 weeks prior to the start of the course: No refunds can be guaranteed, but if BEVA can resell the place a refund will be made less a 20% administrative charge.
  • Transfer of Delegate: Booked places can be transferred to another person. If the transferee is not a BEVA Member he/she will be liable for the difference between the Member and Non-Member delegate rates.
  • Insurance: All delegates must have appropriate liability and professional indemnity insurance.
  • Safety: Delegates must bring appropriate safety wear (coveralls, hard hats, boots etc) to courses involving practical sessions.
  • Data Protection: I understand that BEVA may pass my details to the organisers or sponsors of the courses unless I have specified otherwise.
  • Compliance: I am a qualified to undertake the procedures being taught, or I am in training for such a qualification, in which case I will make the organisers aware of my status.
