Job Description

Scarsdale Vets has a Markeaton practice that is set in the tranquil Allestree area of Derby and is a purpose-built amenity offering the very best in equine and farm veterinary services.  We have experienced and dedicated teams and access to excellent facilities. These facilities include sixteen stables with boxes for critical care patients and foaling boxes and an operating theatre. We are a Clinical Associate Practice of the University of Nottingham. 


The team 
We're a warm, friendly, supportive team who proactively have a caring attitude, enthusiasm and desire to provide a high standard of care as a priority.  Apart from our professional side, we have a great deal of fun in our time at Scarsdale Vets. 

The role 
We are seeking a qualified equine veterinary nurse or a candidate who wishes to enter this profession. This is a challenging and physical role supporting the Equine Vets to achieve excellence in patient care. A varied workload from assisting with lameness examinations to caring for and monitoring in-patients and assisting with associated procedures, including standing surgery and theatre nursing. We see a wide variety of horses from Shetlands to Shires and everything in between. The successful candidate will also provide support to the farm veterinary team with in-patients as required, and be included on the weekend on-call rota. Full training on all aspects of the role will be provided to the successful trainee candidate. 


Required skills and experience….

1. 5 GCSE’s including A-C (or 4-9) Maths, English & Science for Trainee position
2. RVN to do Equine Top up training
3. Competent horse handling
4. Good team work
5. Be able to organise and prioritise
6. Hardworking

Would be good to have….
1. Experience in a busy equine/farm practice
2. Good sense of humour
3. Eager to learn new skills
4. Equine related degree would be an advantage
5. Experience with other large animals
