Redwings are looking for a Welfare Veterinary Surgeon who can demonstrate a strong interest in both welfare and equine behaviour.
The WVS will provide extensive professional support to the Head of Welfare & Behaviour, in particular by assisting with the clinical care of those equines at Redwings’ sites which are the direct responsibility of the Welfare Department. This is a diverse, challenging and an extremely rewarding role.
The post holder will play a key role in the assessment of the health and welfare status of equines and will be required to facilitate the appropriate course of remedial action.
Alongside your Welfare team colleagues you will be responsible for the veterinary needs of new arrivals (including quarantine and disease screening), ongoing care of active welfare case equines, and veterinary support for the Behaviour Centre.
This role also involves a high degree of collaboration with representatives of other organisations such as the RSPCA and other equine charities, providing support for the external welfare work undertaken and assisting with investigations to help equines in situations of cruelty and neglect.
The WVS will also be required to work regularly with the team in the fully equipped veterinary hospital to provide routine and emergency care for over 1,500 equine residents.
The successful candidate will be expected to be confident, patient and empathetic when handling equines.
Full, clean, manual driving licence essential.
Closing date: Monday 20th January 2020
