Job Description

We are seeking an experienced orthopaedic diagnostician to join our busy team at our state-of-the-art Diagnostic Centre.

Rossdales Equine Hospital and Diagnostic Centre welcomes around 3000 horses through its doors annually.  The Diagnostic Centre comprises six senior clinicians and their veterinary assistants, supported by a large team of experienced interns, veterinary technicians and radiographers. Facilities include computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, nuclear scintigraphy, digital radiography and ultrasound, a large lameness work-up area and an all weather arena and lunging areas. At the hospital we have five ECVS Diploma-holding equine surgeons, all with individual areas of expertise and interest, servicing a large diversity of orthopaedic and soft tissue cases. We additionally have a specialist referral internal medicine service dealing with a variety of cardiac, thoracic, abdominal, neonatal and urogenital cases.

The successful applicant will have a minimum of three years primary responsibility at referral level hospital-based equine orthopaedics and ideally have a post graduate qualification in a relevant speciality.   Confidence and ability to investigate lameness and poor performance cases to a high level in all types of horses used for all disciplines will be necessary, as well as skills in diagnostic ultrasound and interpretation of radiographs and scintigraphy. Excellent communication skills, with both clients and colleagues, will be essential.

The position will be based at the Diagnostic Centre and will occasionally involve some travel to other practice sites and clients’ premises.

This is a full-time position, working 5.5 days per week with some contribution to the hospital-based out of hours service, therefore it is a requirement of the position that the Diagnostician lives within 10 minutes of the Practice.

Professional indemnity insurance and BEVA membership will be paid for by the practice.

The successful candidate will be able to take advantage of an excellent CPD package which promotes learning both externally and with access to the internationally renowned Rossdales CPD programmes.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualification level and will be discussed with individual applicants.

Applicants must be eligible to register with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and must have the right to work in UK.

Clinicians currently working abroad are welcome to apply, but must be registered with the RCVS at the time of interview.  Fluency in written and spoken English is essential.

For further details about this position, please see the full job description.
