Job Description

VETERINARY SURGEON, EQUINE - PERMANENT (Duns - Scottish Borders) 1014

Permanent, Part-time - We are looking for an enthusiastic, Experienced PART-TIME Veterinary Surgeon to join our expanding, friendly, motivated team of 6 equine Vets, based at our Equine clinic in Duns, Scottish Borders. The successful candidate would be required to work 2 days per week. Willingness to take part in an equally shared out of hours rota will be an advantage.


VETERINARY SURGEON, EQUINE - TEMPORARY (Duns - Scottish Borders) 1015

Locum – we are also seeking an enthusiastic, experienced, full-time, equine locum Vet to work within our friendly, motivated equine team to cover 5 weeks from August 19th to September 20th, 2019 and an additional 3 weeks from 11th November to 29th November 2019. There will be further weeks available in early 2020. Out of hours cover is shared equally on a 1 in 5 rota.


Some experience or an interest in Orthopaedics would be an advantage but not essential. Facilities include an Equine theatre/surgical unit (we have the services of a visiting RCVS recognised surgeon) and stabling with outdoor lunge and trot up areas for full lameness examinations.

All the usual equipment including - Digital x-ray, ultrasound (tendon and repro scanners), Equigait gait analysis system, new gastroscopy and respiratory endoscope systems and a full range of Equine dentistry equipment including 2 HDE type powerfloats. The main day to day work is ambulatory with the support of our equine clinic and nursing staff for more in-depth on-site investigations which we actively encourage. We currently have 3 certificate holders within the team meaning there is plenty of support and expertise at hand.

GALEDIN VETERINARY is a progressive mixed practice with nine branch surgeries,(including an Equine surgical unit and clinic at Duns), located around the Scottish Borders, East Lothian and Edinburgh. Working within the Galedin Equine team you will have a good teamwork ethic and high standards of client care.
We cover the Scottish Borders, east Lothian and North Northumberland providing the highest level of equine care to a well-established and varied customer base – from pleasure horses through to advanced level competition horses as well as some NH racehorse and Stud work.
