NEW RULE OF RACING
Mandatory stand-down period: shockwave
From 1 January 2018, there will be a new Rule requiring a mandatory five-day stand-down period from racing following the administration of extra-corporeal shockwave therapy.
The Rule, an addition to Schedule (B)3 – Requirements for horse to run, will read as follows:
11.C The horse must not have been administered extra-corporeal shockwave therapy on the day of the race or on any of the five days before the day of the race in which the horse is declared to run.
AMENDED RULE OF RACING
Vaccinations against equine influenza
It is a requirement for all horses which enter racecourse property to have been vaccinated against equine influenza by a veterinary surgeon in accordance with a strict protocol. This requirement is in place as a measure to control infectious disease, in the interest of equine welfare. You can read more about vaccination requirements here.
At present, in the event of failure to comply with any of the requirements for vaccinations against equine influenza, the horse may not be permitted to run unless it has, in the opinion of the Veterinary Officer, received at least a vaccination against equine influenza. This effectively permits horses to run which have not been vaccinated correctly, and which may present a risk to other horses on racecourse property.
The following amendment to 'Rule (E)18 vaccinations against equine influenza' has been made so that, in the event of failure to comply with any of the requirements for vaccinations against equine influenza, the horse will be prevented from running unless the Stewards have given a dispensation. This will allow assessment of the severity of the failure by the Veterinary Officer in conjunction with the Stewards.
Horses deemed to present a risk to other horses on racecourse property will not be permitted to run, in line with international regulation.
Amended Rule (E)18:
18.7 In the event of failure to comply with any of the requirements of this Rule in respect of a horse which is on Racecourse Property
• 18.7.1. unless the Stewards have given their permission the horse will not be permitted to run in any race; and
• 18.7.2 the Trainer or the Owner of the horse are liable to Disciplinary Action
