EVA has received confirmation of a new Hendra case at Murwillumbah, on the North Coast of NSW.  DPI NSW has reported that a 31 year old  Stock Horse gelding was found dead in a dam on a Murwillumbah property on Thursday.

The property has now been quarantined, and the situation is being assessed and managed by DPI NSW.  For the full media release from DPI NSW, CLICK HERE.

EVA strongly advises all members to exercise caution and take all appropriate safety measures when Hendra is on your differential diagnosis.  The early symptoms of Hendra infection can be so vague or mild that cases have initially been mistaken for other conditions.  By the time a Hendra case is confirmed, human exposure may have already occurred.

EVA also wishes to use this case as a reminder that EVA Members should take the opportunity to discuss and recommend Hendra virus vaccination with horse owners.
