Racing Queensland (RQ) and Equine Veterinarians Australia (EVA) (a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association) are collaborating to develop a Code of Conduct for veterinary surgeons who provide care to horses engaged within the Thoroughbred Industry.

This project follows a period of consultation undertaken with trainers and veterinary surgeons since October last year.

RQ and the EVA have agreed that a Code of Conduct will provide an appropriate framework for the regulatory oversight of veterinary surgeons who treat thoroughbred horses in Queensland and eliminate the need for veterinary surgeons to be formally licensed through the control body.

This project marks the continuation of a long and successful association between RQ and the EVA which has seen the organisations work together during significant challenges to the horse industry including the equine influenza outbreak and Hendra virus.
