Alex Thiemann, Senior Veterinary Surgeon at the The Donkey Sanctuary talks to us about donkeys and what to expect from our upcoming course...
Donkeys are great equines; they are fun, sociable, hard-working and often underappreciated. They do have different needs from horses and if not treated well can end up with severe welfare problems, increasing the pressure on equine sanctuaries.
In the UK donkeys are used for companionship, animal assisted therapy, driving and riding; in other countries donkeys are increasingly used to produce milk and meat, as well as motive power.
The BEVA course in October is being held at our recently opened and specially designed donkey hospital, adjacent to our own pathology unit and, built with teaching in mind, this course has speakers with many years of donkey experience and passion to share.
