book iconAbout the Course

A completely different style of CPD and a day that promises to leave your head fizzing with new facts and ideas.

In a TED style format, our speakers will have just 10 minutes to present on topical and controversial areas with a good amount of time for discussion and challenge following each talk.

The subject matter for the day remains to be finalised as the focus will be on the latest information, but here is just a taster of some of the things you can expect to be up for discussion...

Orthopaedics

  • Stem cells in osteoarthritis – miracle treatment or fad?
  • Is my phone more useful than my vet for lameness assessment?
  • Biologics for tendon and ligament disease
  • Does every sport horse have sacroiliac disease?
  • Should we cut the interspinous ligaments on every horse with kissing spines?

Reproduction

  • Stallion health screening; what is needed and when.
  • Receiving chilled semen; what makes a sample adequate?
  • Semen health certification; where do we stand?
  • Equine Viral Arteritis (EVA); what you need to know.
  • FormuFertility rates; what do we need to know?
  • R.equi: is treatment necessary?
  • Limb deformities in foals,
  • Artificial breeding and "off-label consent"; how far do we go?

Medicine

  • Headshaking - have we gone full circle?
  • Influenza vaccination recommendations
  • Dietary recommendations for obesity
  • Pharmaceutical treatments for EMS
  • Blood and saliva tests for the diagnosis of parasites.
  • Should we be treating horses with PPID?
  • Latest research in treating gastric disease

Imaging and others

  • Stewardship of antimicrobials and anthelmintics
  • Approach medical investigations in a logical manner.
  • Advanced imaging options for cervical disease: is it worth it?
  • Is nuclear scintigraphy just a waste of money?.
  • How can I make sense of scanning a digital flexor tendon sheath?
  • Infundibular caries - which cases should we be filling?

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we are unable to run our normal CPD programme until July at the earliest. This means Shooting from the Hip: Quick Fire Updates for Vets on the Front Line will not take place on the 4 June 2020.

All affected delegates, speakers and sponsors have been notified with more information and the next steps. We will continue to keep delegates fully informed in the coming days and let you know how to claim a refund. Please bear with us whilst we work through the necessary steps.

During the outbreak we will be doing what we can to support our members and would welcome your thoughts on how best we could help you.
