About the course

This is an exciting opportunity to participate in the fifth interactive workshop focusing on equine cardiology for equine practitioners. The speakers’ list includes a variety of well-known experts in equine cardiology. They will again be joined by a human physician, adding the human perspective to this year’s program.

The morning session will focus on cardiac anatomy, echocardiography, assessment of valvular regurgitation and interactive echo case discussions. In the afternoon, the focus will shift to electrocardiography, with tips and tricks for the practitioner, an update und bundle branch blocks and accessory pathways and interactive ECG case discussions. The course will be concluded with an update on the guidelines on transthoracic echocardiography in horses initiative.

As usual, this workshop precedes the 2023 Autumn meeting of the Veterinary Cardiovascular Society (VCS) to be held at Chesford Grange. All BEVA members will be able to register for 1 or 2 days of the VCS autumn meeting for the same rate as their own members. Over these two days, there will be a comparative theme covering small animal, human and equine cardiology (details will be announced by the VCS. Click here for any updates). The VCS meeting promises to stimulate lots of thought.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course you will...
1. Have increased confidence in assessment and grading of aortic and mitral murmurs.
2. Be able to interpret ECGs and discuss echo cases.
3. Understand the latest thinking behind blood pressure monitoring, cardiac innervations and measuring and grading of transthoracic echo images.
