Course Description: Essential skills for equine vets wishing to work with sports horses and racehorses, covering the practicalities and formalities together with some friendly advice from practitioners experienced in these fields. This course is offered as blended learning with pre-course webinars to view prior to this one day meeting. There will be an optional dinner in the evening, at the Tack Room, and for those that wish to stay over there is also the chance to join a well known Newmarket based trainer on the gallops before having a tour of the training yard. Key Learning Objectives: • Develop an understanding of the racing and sports horse industries, and the role of the veterinary surgeon within them. • Gain an insight into the day to day work of veterinary surgeons working in the yards, at the sales, at competitions and on the racecourse. • Update your knowledge of the rules and regulations which affect veterinary surgeons, including vaccinations, medications and detection times. • Identify challenges regarding welfare of the horse and demands of the sport (and/or trainer/rider) and discuss commonly encountered scenarios.
