The role of nutrition in the sports horse occupies three roles; to support optimal performance; to manage issues affecting performance and to manage risk of positive blood tests or future clinical problems. Typically we see cases at the second stage, when clinical conditions affect performance, but this course will examine each of the above to give you a wider perspective of the considerations needed to deliver high quality nutritional support and advice to the equine athlete and rider.
Presented by vets and nutritionists including nutritionist to the British team Ruth Bishop, this course will offer guidance on managing gastric ulcers, IAD, myopathies and PPID and insulin dysregulation and the use of supplements. You will learn how to spot when the nutrition of a horse needs improving, understand the legalities of nutritional supplements and how to identify when they could cause problems, and how to achieve and maintain peak performance through nutrition.
