About the course

Practical AI: The Essentials will ensure you are fully conversant with the essential theory and practical techniques of equine artificial insemination and ready to face a stud season.

Lectures will include health requirements and paperwork for both mare and stallion; semen collection; handling, processing, shipping, and assessment of the mare prior to insemination; timing of insemination for fresh, chilled and frozen semen; techniques of equine insemination and assessment of the mare after insemination.

Small group practical sessions will include microscopic assessments of chilled and frozen equine semen; handling of frozen semen and insemination of mares using conventional and deep intra-uterine techniques.

This course is one of our approved CPD courses that will allow you to become listed on our BEVA Approved AI list.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course you will...
1. Understand semen collection and processing techniques.
2. Gain an in-depth knowledge of the certification, health requirements, and biosecurity associated with artificial insemination.
3. Understand the veterinary care of the mare pre and post artificial insemination.
4. Gain the ability to prepare and assess semen (fresh, chilled, and frozen) prior to insemination.
 5. Gain the ability to perform conventional and deep uterine insemination techniques.

Such a great day. Very practical and hands on, with very informative speakers!
