There will be a range of lectures covering hospital nursing and in-patient care. 

Friday 11 November 
Managing hospital teams: Utilising technicians and nurses to ensure appropriate staffing, high standard of horse care and team welfare. 
Critical care nursing: Preparing for emergencies, placement & management/care of intravenous catheters, fluid therapy and interpreting blood work. 
Nutrition: A lecture by nutritionist Katie Williams covering ideal nutrition for the hospitalised patient. 
Isolation: Identifying and maintaining the isolation patient.  
ECG’s: A presentation into ECG placement and interpretation of common abnormalities.  
Neonatal care: Lectures covering care of the hospitalised mare and foal  
Day one finishes with a medical case study for the group to discuss care plans and treatments. 

Saturday 12 November 
Day two starts with a trip to the Heath for anyone who would like to watch the horses train on the gallops. We will then head back to Rossdales for a half day of lectures. 
Radiation techniques and safety: This lecture will cover the best techniques for ensuring optimal radiation safety alongside getting the best diagnostic radiographs for the clinicians to interpret. 
Nurses role in SSX: A presentation covering a nurse’s role in standing surgery and patient care. 
Angular limb deformities in the foal: Treatment options and nursing care of the foal with angular limb deformities.  
Theatre skills: This lecture will cover theatre management, preparation of the patient and how to be effective in your role as surgical nurse whilst horses are undergoing a general aesthetic. 
Day two will be finished with a surgery-based case study.
