book iconAbout the Course

Part of our ‘Fundamentals programme’ aimed at new and recent graduates this course will provide a grounding in gastroenterology.

The format will include pre-learning as an essential part of the course with recorded lectures and then a more practical and small group approach to learning on the day. This will allow a far more informal and hands on learning experience for each delegate with the group of experienced medicine clinicians.

By the end of this course delegates will be able to:

  • Confidently examine, form and carry out a plan for a horse with abdominal pain, choke, liver disease, weight loss or diarrhoea.
  • Know how to carry out further investigations, including where indicated basic abdominal ultrasound.
  • Formulate yard specific biosecurity plans for a tailored worming plan.
  • Have confidence in their decision to refer.
  • Practical sessions will include how to approach peritoneal taps and the different techniques and FLASH ultrasound alongside case scenarios including creating biosecurity plans and how to assess clinical pathology results.

Great course. Really loved practicing ultrasound scanning the abdomen and talking through cases.
