About the course

Part of our ‘Fundamentals programme’ aimed at new and recent graduates, this course will provide a grounding in gastroenterology.

The format will include pre-learning as an essential part of the course with recorded lectures and then a more practical and small group approach to learning on the day. This will allow for you to experience a far more informal and hands on learning experience with the group of experienced medicine clinicians.

What will I learn?

By the end of the course you will...
1. Be able to confidently examine, form and carry out a plan for a horse with abdominal pain, choke, liver disease, weight loss or diarrhoea.
2. Carry out further investigations, including basic abdominal ultrasound.
3. Formulate yard-specific biosecurity plans for a tailored worming plan.
4. Have confidence in your decision to refer
5. Approach peritoneal taps and the different techniques and FLASH ultrasound alongside case scenarios including creating biosecurity plans and how to assess clinical pathology results

Suitable for RCVS Modules

B-EP3, C-E1, C-E3, C-E15, 16
