Rossdales Equine Hospital,

people iconWho is the course for?

The course is suitable for both absolute beginners and more experienced ultrasonographers and you will be grouped according to experience for the practical sessions.

book iconAbout the Course

Please note that the course day will begin at Rossdales Equine Hospital and then move to the British Racing School for the practical sessions. This course will lead you through the investigation of horses with cardiac disease using echocardiography and electrocardiography to fully evaluate the clinical significance of cardiac disease in the horse.

This course provides a full day learning with the majority of the day being focused on image acquisition and interpretation. The practical course will be delivered in small groups providing plenty of opportunity to develop the necessary skills under specialist guidance. Case based examples will take you beyond simply obtaining images to be able to interpret findings

thinking iconKey Learning Objectives

  • Be able to obtain standarised 2D, m-mode and colour flow doppler images of the equine heart
  • Be able to critically evaluate cardiac ultrasound images and optimise these to ensure an accurate diagnosis
  • Obtain measurements from standardised ultrasound images and interpret these to determine the significance of common cardiac abnormalities in the horse
  • Identify where further diagnostics can be used to further enhance clinical care of horses with cardiac disease
  • Interpret ambulatory ECG recordings in horses and undertake a 12-lead ECG
