Job Description

Waikato Equine Veterinary Centre is located in the epicentre of Sport Horse and Thoroughbred performance and breeding in New Zealand. Cambridge is an expanding town, renowned as a great location for young families with excellent schools, climate and access to a great lifestyle. The town is also the site for the national academy in cycling, triathlon and rowing. In addition, you will be living in close proximity to wonderful beaches on both coasts, and a relatively short drive to ski fields in the winter. The area provides a truly wonderful location for anyone with an active lifestyle and love for the outdoors.

We currently support a high proportion of the countries top dressage, eventing and showjumping riders and the majority of the region’s (and New Zealand’s) leading Thoroughbred trainers and the practice is expanding. We are seeking an experienced equine veterinarian to help with our sport horse and racing client-base. Skills in lameness diagnosis and management combined with excellent client communication are pre-requisites for this position. The caseload would be a mixture of clinic-based investigations and ambulatory work. Previous experience either working or riding in the sport horse competition environment in the Uk , Europe or the States or in track practice would be beneficial.  We appreciate that applicants are unlikely to have extensive experience in both fields. Above all, an enthusiasm and passion for the horse and what our owners, riders and trainers are trying to achieve is essential. You will be providing a support role for senior veterinarians and will be encouraged to establish and build your own client base. We have established an atmosphere of collegiality and support within the practice and having the ability to work as a team member is an important attribute to bring.

The practice is a modern, purpose built, bespoke diagnostic facility, well equipped with the usual digital imaging modalities, nuclear scintigraphy, video and dynamic endoscopy. It supported with a boarded surgeon and a modern well-equipped theatre.

CPD is actively supported, with colleagues encouraged to further their clinical expertise by attending national and international meetings and courses. A competitive salary package is    available with remuneration being commensurate with experience.
