The candidate must be graduated from a veterinary school accredited by the ECEIM. The applicant must have the authorization to practice veterinary medicine in a European Country, and have at least followed a 12 month internship program, or have an equivalent clinical experience (i.e. a minimum of 2 year experience in an equine or mixed clinical practice). He/she must have a good knowledge of French and English. Basic knowledge in Dutch/German and teaching experience will be considered additional advantages.
The candidate will integrate a dynamic clinical team and will be mainly supervised by ECEIM/ACVIM diplomates and secondarily by ECVAA/ECVO/ECVDI Diplomates in order to receive specialist training. He/she will also be required participating in clinical rotations, teaching of master students and interns, and in out-of-hours duty rotations (1 on 4). During the first 4 years, the candidate will also have to fulfil all the requirements of an ECEIM residency, including writing a minimum of 2 first author scientific papers in international peer-reviewed journals, performing training rotations in related disciplines (could be external), participating to ECEIM journal clubs, attending at least 3 congresses or conferences approved by the ECEIM, and giving at least 6 (amongst which 3 external) seminars or professional presentations.
The equine teaching hospital of Liège has a caseload of ± 1.500 cases/year (among which around 40 % are admitted in out-of-hours emergency), consisting of sports and pleasure horses coming from Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Luxembourg and France. The internal medicine case load includes a wide range of medical disorders, including mainly digestive (colic), cardiac, respiratory, sport medicine and neonatology cases. The adult and neonatal intensive care units have a high occupational rate.
