Chine House Equine Internship
Commencing July 2019
This is a 12-month position ideally suited to a veterinary graduate with at least 6 months prior experience, although confident new graduates will be considered.
The internship is primarily hospital based but there may be a small amount of ambulatory work. At the end of this position we would anticipate that the intern will develop a wide range of competencies including lameness investigation, anaesthesia, reproductive work, diagnostic imaging and management of colic cases. Following this internship, the applicant will be well grounded to go into private practice or apply for residency positions.
The intern will be responsible for in-patient care, client communication and will assist with out-patient appointments, emergency admissions and surgery. Prior experience of equine anaesthesia is an advantage. The intern is encouraged to complete a case report/series with the final aim of publication in a peer reviewed journal and relevant support will be given for this.
Chine House Veterinary Hospital is a fully equipped and RCVS accredited equine hospital with facilities for stabling 20 in-patients. The case-load is very mixed providing a broad base of experience.
Prospective applicants are encouraged to spend at least one day seeing practice at the hospital prior to the selection process.
Applicants must:
• Show initiative, be willing to learn, and be committed to providing the best possible service to our patients and clients
• Hold a veterinary degree
• Be members of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
• Be fluent in English
Accommodation will be provided on site and the out of hours rota is 1:2. Including phone duties.
Salary is fixed at £17,500 and there is a contributory pension scheme available.
