Job Description

We have a predominantly sports horse client base with a great deal of lameness diagnosis, treatment and orthopaedic injury rehabilitation in our caseload. In addition, we operate a specialist equine breeding centre offering routine AI, embryo transfer, stallion training and the latest oocyte recovery techniques.

The successful candidate should be RCVS registered at the time of application, and able to commit to a busy 5 day working week and shared out of hours rota (1in2/3 during Summer and 1 in 4/6 during Winter.) All OOH work will be mentored directly in the first 6 months. In return, you will receive a dedicated mentor for each of the 3 internship stages who will work to develop your clinical and case management skills.

The initial 6 months will involve accompanying one of the senior vets in daily lameness work ups (nerve & joint blocks/radiography/ultrasonography/treatment & rehab of orthopaedic injuries), poor performance cases, routine dentals, duty cover at polo matches and all aspects of ambulatory first opinion sports horse practice.

 During the middle 6 months the caseload and type remains much the same with a heavy sports horse bias, but you would assume greater responsibility for cases and, with guidance, further develop your role within the practice.

The final 6 months involves working with the equine reproduction team, becoming competent at routine mare scanning/AI/semen processing/foaling and foal work.
