Job Description

Højgård Equine Hospital offers one 12 month internship position for an enthusiastic junior veterinarian who wish to pursue further experience in a busy equine hospital setting. The position will suit a veterinarian with 1-2 years of experience in equine practice with a strong desire to develop skills within anesthesia, critical care and imaging. However, newly graduates are also encouraged to apply.

The position will include block wise rotations through internal medicine/critical care, anesthesia and imaging. The daily responsibilities include physical examinations of horses in the hospital, medical treatments, changes of bandages, assisting the veterinarians with procedures, preparation of laboratory samples, preparing patients for surgery and assisting with anesthesia, obtaining radiographs and so much more. Afterhours work will include evening treatments, anesthesia and assisting the on-duty veterinarian with emergencies at the hospital. There will be no off-site work.  The hospital offers many imaging modalities including MRI, Scintigraphy, digital radiography, ultrasound, airway and oral endoscopy and gastroscopy. We have 1 surgery suite which runs on average 3-4 surgeries daily, a fully equipped hospital with a neonatal department and intensive care facilities. The field practice has 4-5 veterinarians on the road daily and covers a large spectrum of cases daily. The hospital also includes a reproduction ward, which amongst other things offers standard repro work, as well as oocyte aspiration and embryo transfers. Our rehabilitation ward includes treadmills, with and without water, as well as spa and laser therapy for injury related care. On staff, we have ISELP certificate holders, as well as a board-certified large animal internist (DACVIM).

As the responsibilities does not include any primary case responsibilities with direct owner communication, knowledge of the Danish language is not considered a requirement. However, we do require the ability to communicate fully in English, in both oral and written format. Citizenship and veterinary license within the EU are mandatory due to the requirement of the work permit.

We have accommodation on site for all 3-4 interns with shared kitchen and bathroom.

We look forward to receiving your application and give you any information you may request. A visit to our clinic is highly encouraged, but not a requirement. We will accept applications until January 16th,  2020 for the position starting between February 1st and March 1st, 2020.

Please send you application with your letter of intent and a completed CV with a minimum of 2 references that we may contact, to:
