Job Description

Mälaren Hästklinik (www.hastklinik.seis one of largest equine hospitals in Scandinavia offering a full emergency and surgical service. We employ 26 vets of which 15 work at our main facility, 40 minutes from Stockholm. We have run the internship program at the hospital for 5 years and are now opening up for applicants who also are fluent in English.

Our facilities include an orthopaedic clinic, two surgical theatres, inpatient care for 26 horses, diagnostic imaging (digital x-ray, ultrasound, standing MRI) and advanced dental care. The hospital is extremely busy, with 12,000 patient visits per year. In addition, we run an ambulatory and reproductive service. We have a very varied case load including racehorses (mainly trotting horses), sports and pleasure horses. In late 2019 inauguration of the brand-new hospital will take place, giving us even more capacity and ability to serve our customers.

The internship is mainly hospital based but there may be a small amount of ambulatory work. At the end of this program we would anticipate that the intern will have developed a wide range of clinical skills and competencies, including emergency work, in-patient care, anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging and lameness work. Following the internship, the applicant will be well grounded for private practice or a residency application.

The intern will be exposed to all departments within the hospital. However, the primary rotations will be in-patient care, anaesthesia, orthopaedics and diagnostic imaging. This is a highly challenging and demanding position; however, the applicant will be fully supported by both Diplomates and Swedish specialists in medicine, surgery, and orthopaedics. Our interns are expected to work hard during their time at our practice and have a large ‘out-of-hours’ commitment, however the position is extremely rewarding.

In addition to a weekly journal club, we hold regular orthopaedic and radiology rounds to which our interns are encouraged to attend.

Applicants must:

·        Show initiative, be willing to learn and be committed to providing the best service possible to our clients

·        Hold an EU veterinary degree

·        Be fluent in English or one of the Scandinavian languages

Out-of-hours duty for emergency admissions and in-patient care are shared on a 1 in 4 rota. Paid holiday for 25 days. Accommodation provided on site.

If you wish to apply for this intern position, please send your full curriculum vitae with a recent photograph and contact details of two referees possible to Maria Svensson, mia@hastklinik.se

Closing dates for applications

·        1st of June for September position

·        1st of September for December position
