As an intern you will be looking after the in-patients, monitoring the cases during their stay in the Hospital, including their pre-operative, anaesthetic and post-operative care. This would also involve sharing the night duty care of these patients with the rest of the intern team.

Our internship programme lasts two years as a fixed term contract. The first 18 months is spent as a Hospital Intern. During the last six months, our interns stay as an ambulatory vet.

Advanced Facilities to Advance Your Future

Pool House Equine Hospital is located in Lichfield to the Northeast of Birmingham we are an associate teaching practice for Nottingham University. We are very lucky to have a purpose-built hospital composed of 4 operating theatres (two standing including a specific dental theatre and two full theatres including a colic theatre). We are equipped with four digital radiography systems, ultrasounds and standing MRI. There is stabling for up to 30 horses. We look after a varied horse population including general riding and companion horses/ponies, sport horses and racehorse training yards. The clinic has easy access to the motorway network, two main line railway stations and Birmingham International Airport.

The team includes more than 15 experienced veterinary surgeons including 5 European and American Diplomates, experienced ambulatory vets and 5 residents. The team is supported by a reception and accounts team, three RVNs, technicians and yard staff.

We have a good medical and surgical case load including elective and emergencies (i.e., colic surgery).
