Emergency Services Protocol: Kester ‘Tip of the Hat’ honour for BEVA at the AAEP Convention
At the opening session of the 53rd AAEP Convention in Orlando, Florida BEVA’s Emergency Services Protocol and Equine Rescue Fund was singled out for particular mention during the Kester News Hour. The KNH is a major event at the AAEP and provides a fast paced overview of the key scientific events of the last year. Appearing in a brand-new ‘evening news’ format this year, following the retirement of Dr’s John Madigan and Larry Bramlage in 2006, the KNH covered almost 50 different scientific topics that have appeared in the literature in 2006-07. Speaking in front of almost 3,000 delegates, presenter Dr Bonnie Rush said that the first ever Kester ‘Tip of the Hat’ was being made to BEVA and BHS for the production and launch of the Emergency Services Protocol and Fund in May 2007. She explained how the Protocol and Fund will improve safety and standards for all those involved with equine rescue and will ensure prompt attendance at the scenes of accidents by equine vets. She explained how important this initiative is for equine welfare and praised BEVA and BHS for their work. Following BEVA’s lead, Dr Rush noted that California has just launched its own Emergency Services Protocol and Fund to achieve the same high standards for equine rescue that are provided by the BEVA protocol.
