Course Description:

This is a 2-day course, consisting of two mornings of lectures and full afternoons of practicals, involving live horses and wetlabs, all of which will be held at the University of Bristol, Langford, North Somerset.

Over 600 BEVA members have now attended BEVA CPD courses on equine dentistry, including many members from overseas. Many delegates who attended the practical courses have greatly increased their dentistry workload as a result. Some now report that they are recognising and effectively treating many significant dental disorders that they or their clients were previously unaware of, and are thereby obtaining great professional satisfaction from their work. The format and content of this course has evolved, in the last 5 years, as techniques and equipment have improved and it endeavours to cover a review of equine dental pathophysiology and to review the current view of appropriate therapy and equipment for all dental disorders encountered in equine practice. The mornings’ lectures provide an in-depth theoretical underpinning of the practicals and will discuss recent advances in equipment, techniques and legislation. The afternoons will consist of practical classes in small groups allowing delegates to practice a thorough dental examination, recognition of dental pathology, appropriate instrumentation and techniques and selected imaging modalities with emphasis on the role of the veterinarian in practice rather than the specialist surgeon. Delegates are encouraged to bring their own equipment and headlamps. This course is generously supported by sponsors allowing delegates to test and purchase equipment. To allow maximal benefit to delegates at the practical sessions, delegate numbers are restricted to 30, and a high tutor to delegate ratio is maintained. The tutors are all widely experienced in both practicing and teaching equine dentistry and informal discussion in a relaxed atmosphere is encouraged throughout.

A course dinner is included in the registration fee, which all delegates are encouraged to attend and historically this has been a memorable evening. This very popular course has consistently received good reviews and has been filled at an early stage; therefore early reservation of a place is advised!
