BEVA has the reputation for providing equine CPD of the highest quality with the emphasis on the expertise of the speakers and the practical components of the courses. This is a two day course that covers three important nursing units: Surgical Nursing, Theatre Practice and Anaesthesia, these units have a theoretical and practical elements. The course content is based on the Equine Vet Nurse syllabus, which contains essential knowledge for EVNs and nurses working in equine practice.
Fee: £310 for BEVA Members to attend both days, £385 for Non-Members to attend both days

BEVA Trust New Graduates AI Core Skills Workshop - 10/02/2010
The aim of the course is to ensure that new graduates facing their first stud season are fully conversant with the theory and practical techniques of equine artificial insemination.
Lectures will include health requirements and paperwork for both mare and stallion; assessment of the mare prior to insemination; timing of insemination for chilled and frozen semen; techniques of equine insemination and assessment of the mare after insemination.
Small group practical sessions will include microscopic assessments of chilled and frozen equine semen and insemination of mares using conventional and deep intra-uterine techniques.
NB this course does NOT cover reproductive ultrasonography (which is covered in the BEVA course running on 7-9th June 2010 in Yorkshire).
Red Dot Equine Radiology Core Skills Workshop - 11/02/2010
This innovative course is based on the highly successful “Red Dot” human radiology course that has been running for over 10years at Northwick Park Hospital in Harrow. The course particularly aims to provide a structured approach to interpreting the essentials of equine radiology. The teaching programme is based on short lectures, teaching quizzes, and interactive tutorials utilising a long range mouse and a large screen drawing facility. Delegates work in pairs on state-of-the-art Mac workstations.
Equine Lameness Core Skills Workshop - 04/03/2010
This workshop is suitable for vets working in mixed or equine practice, who wish to increase or review their skills in equine lameness diagnostic techniques. The day’s programme is split into practical and lecture sessions covering basic and some advanced techniques. Teaching material will be provided to allow a full range of skills to be demonstrated and practised. Much of the day will be spent in small groups, with individual sessions kept to less than 45 minutes.

Distal Limb Ultrasonography Core Skills Workshop - 16/03/2010
This workshop is designed to provide practical instruction in the technique of obtaining and interpreting ultrasonograms of the distal limb of the horse. The workshop is aimed at new graduates and those wishing to refresh their skills. The course covers the basics of ultrasonography, the ultrasonographic anatomy, scanning of the superficial flexor tendon, deep digital flexor tendon, palmar/plantar annular ligament, suspensory ligament and the fetlock region and includes 3 hours of practical instruction. This workshop will be accompanied by an ultrasound reading steeplechase with the images to be discussed, likely to be available on the BEVA website prior to the course.
Rescue and Emergency Medicine Training for Equine Vets Joint BEVA & Hampshire Fire and Rescue Services Course - 23/03/2010
This course is designed to provide rescue and emergency training to enable delegates to work effectively with animal rescue teams from the Fire and Rescue Service, as well as other responders from the emergency services, at equine rescue incidents and to provide emergency care of rescued horses. This hugely popular course has been running since 2008 and is provided through the partnership between BEVA and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service (FRS). It is suitable for all veterinary surgeons who work with horses, and we particularly encourage those from practices in the Emergency Services Protocol Directory of Equine Veterinary Surgeons to attend. The aim is to equip equine practitioners with the skills and knowledge they need to work effectively and safely at rescues, to improve the welfare of horses at incidents and to achieve better rescue outcomes.

Reproductive Ultrasound Core Skills Workshop - 07/04/2010
The aim of the course is to ensure that new graduates facing their first stud season and those without previous experience of equine reproduction are fully conversant with the theory and practical techniques of equine reproductive ultrasonography. This course provides a useful complement to the BEVA New Graduate AI Course.
Pre-Purchase Examination Core Skills Workshop - 12/04/2010
These workshops are designed for those who, perhaps, do not spend all their professional time working with horses. Previous delegates have ranged from new graduates, wishing to extend their reach with regard to equine practice, right through to senior members who have felt the need to update their knowledge. The subject covers an area, which has caused much concern in recent years, hence the inclusion of a speaker from the Veterinary Defence Society. The practical programme will include examining horses with particular reference to wind, eyes, heart, ageing, flexion tests, conformation, intended use and much more.
