Health and Medicines Committee

The BEVA Health and Medicines Committee is co-chaired by Professor James Wood and BEVA President Elect, Keith Chandler. The committee provides support to the BEVA Board of Management and reports to council on subjects which are likely to affect the welfare of the horse or affect our membership. Some recent examples include scrutinising the Scottish Government's African Horse Sickness legislation; providing advice to members on the legality of using certain medicines in equine animals and withdrawal times in competition animals. The committee meets by teleconference up to four-times per year and is currently working on providing detailed guidance for our members, on the responsible use of antimicrobials in horses.
